Save Fuel Top tips

Petrol and Diesel are going through the roof, and for some of us  a LPG conversion  whether it be petrol or diesel conversion is economically not viable, then we have to obey some of life's little rules when comes to saving fuel;

Remember it wasn't that long ago when you would have just switched off looking at these tips, well not any more like it or not unless you reside in the UAE you need to start adjusting the way we drive.

The method we adopt when driving is usually habit that we have to consciously for a period of time do certain things to 1. break the habit of old and 2. begin a new habit hopefully better. This is the case with driving.

Here are some fuel saving  tips: Horse graphic

Maintenance of the truck

Maintain your truck or car, You might only use it for the horse ever three weeks but make sure it runs right. A $20 maintenance item can soon run into the 100's in lost fuel. Keep engines tuned and keep the oil fresh.

Tyres

Tyres well doesn't the truck go better when the tyre pressure is right? Sure does The wife said to me last week after putting air in the tyres, that the car drives the best she can remembers. Yes air helps and the right pressure not only makes the vehicle handle better but also saves fuel, lots of fuel so... do yourself a favour check what the correct pressure PSI is and maintain that pressure at all costs.

Travel

Travel at off peak times, avoid traffic snares and slow traffic, plan the trip for the smoothest run, When travelling with horses as we all know the horses are happier too. Oh yes smooth travel will save fuel.

Share a ride.

It doesn't happen all the time but sometimes if we are travelling light  maybe some one else could travel too, Talk to others maybe just maybe you might all be going to the same place at the same time. This often happens with horse events.

Pricing

Watch fuel prices, there is a cycle that service centres work too and some days of the week fuel maybe slightly cheaper than the others, watch it , note it and you will be surprised how in some cases the prices fluctuate. then buy at the cheapest point. When the price rises per barrel usually it will take some days for it to be reflected at the pump.. Buy your fuel from cheaper stations if you know you are travelling into a area of higher prices fill up before.

Speed

I remember Dad telling me about this and boy he was boring, But true. Maintain a constant speed, don't jerk the accelerator and use the throttle sparingly and smoothly. This is where we need to change our bad habits of driving and it doesn't come easy but if you try a smoother more conservative method you will save money and lots of it.

Air Conditioning

If its Hot its hot so use it but why leave it on if you don't need to. Air conditioning will use a large amount of fuel and detract from your vehicles overall performance. Use it only when you have too. Do what they did when I was a boy sooooo many years ago , wind down a window. Or switch your vents to fresh air in.

Plan

Plan where you are going, why travel lost for 20 kms when you don't need too. Yes I know how conservative is that but if you plan you trip first and check maps just by knowing your way and the best way will prevent any unnecessary miles and fuel usage.

and don't sacrifice safety for you and your passengers or animals to save fuel Its not that important.

Happy driving
